Piperacillin and Tazobactam injection
Piperacillin and Tazobactam injection is a combination antibiotic medication used to treat various bacterial infections.
Mechanism of Action: Piperacillin is a broad-spectrum penicillin antibiotic, while Tazobactam is a beta-lactamase inhibitor. Piperacillin works by inhibiting the synthesis of bacterial cell walls, ultimately leading to bacterial cell death. Tazobactam enhances the activity of piperacillin by inhibiting beta-lactamase enzymes produced by certain bacteria. Beta-lactamase enzymes can inactivate penicillin antibiotics like piperacillin, rendering them ineffective. By inhibiting beta-lactamase enzymes, tazobactam helps to extend the spectrum of activity of piperacillin against bacteria that produce these enzymes.
Indications: Piperacillin and Tazobactam injection is used to treat a variety of bacterial infections, including:
Lower respiratory tract infections
Urinary tract infections
Skin and soft tissue infections
Intra-abdominal infections
Gynecological infections
Septicemia (bloodstream infections)
Nosocomial pneumonia (hospital-acquired pneumonia)
