Atorvastatin Tablets
Atorvastatin tablets belong to a class of medications known as statins. They are commonly prescribed to lower cholesterol levels and reduce the risk of cardiovascular events such as heart attacks and strokes. Here’s some information about Atorvastatin tablets:
Mechanism of Action: Atorvastatin works by inhibiting an enzyme in the liver called HMG-CoA reductase, which plays a key role in cholesterol synthesis. By blocking this enzyme, Atorvastatin reduces the production of cholesterol in the liver and increases the liver’s ability to remove LDL cholesterol (the “bad” cholesterol) from the blood.
Cholesterol Lowering: Atorvastatin primarily lowers LDL cholesterol levels, but it may also modestly increase HDL cholesterol (the “good” cholesterol) levels and decrease triglyceride levels in the blood.
Indications: Atorvastatin is prescribed to treat high levels of cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood, particularly when lifestyle changes such as diet and exercise have not been sufficient to control cholesterol levels. It is also used to reduce the risk of cardiovascular events in individuals with existing heart disease or who are at high risk of developing heart disease.
